German-Hanoverian Party

The German - Hanoverian Party ( DHP) was a conservative federalist party in Prussia and the German Empire.

Prussia and the Empire

The party was founded in 1869 in protest against the annexation of the Kingdom of Hanover by Prussia and the confiscation of the assets of Guelph ( Guelph Fund). They aimed at the restoration of the Welf dynasty and was therefore called " the Guelph party." The conservative- dominated Lutheran party was anti-Prussian and strongly anchored mainly in East Hanover. Among the leaders were numerous nobles. In the Reichstag of the German Empire, the deputies of the party joined as trainees regularly to the fraction of the center. Your Reichstag Louis Bruel, a close friend of the center leader Ludwig Windthorst was in 1892 a major role in the negotiations on the return of the Guelph Fund. Party leaders ( = Chairman of the Executive Board of the Hanoverian Association choice, as they call themselves ) was from 1890 to 1898 Georg von der Decken ( 1836-1898 ), MdR 1890-1898.

Weimar Republic

After 1918, the DHP sat down for an independent of Prussia Hanover as a constituent state of the German Empire. Federal Republic of Germany

After 1945 came the " Lower Saxony State Party " (1947 renamed the " German Party"), the successor to the DHP. At the federal level, they formed a coalition with the CDU and was represented by ministers in the federal government.

The only president of this party was Hans Wilhelm Griemsmann. This DHP participated in the Lower Saxony state parliament elections in 1955 and received 0.3 % of the valid votes. In 1957 she exhibited together with the Centre, the Lower Saxony state list of the Federal Union ( FU).
