Georg von der Decken

Georg Friedrich Armand Graf von der Decken ( born October 5, 1836 in Braunschweig, † August 19 1898 in Ringelsheim ) was Heir to Ringelsheim and member of the German Reichstag.

Life

From the ceiling was the son of Adolphus, Count von der Decken and Louise Wallmoden. He married in 1866 in Schlobitten Marie Countess and Viscountess Dohna - Schlodien. She came from Mallmitz in Silesia. The couple had five children.

Before 1890 Earl was from the ceiling attaché of the Hanoverian Embassy in Paris. Here he had the opportunity to deepen his painting.

From 1890 until his death he was a member of the German Reichstag for the electoral district of Province of Hanover 7 ( Nienburg, Neustadt am Ruebenberge, Fallingbostel ).

Count George was very interested in technical developments. He has designed a pedal boat early. Later he built the old water mill of the monastery Ringelsheim at the heart gradually in a power plant to. The water wheel was replaced in 1886 by a DC generator. Count Georg wanted several villages with electricity and began the rebuilding of the monastery mill in a power plant. He died a few months before commissioning. From 1898, many villages were supplied with electricity. 1913, the power station was sold to the overland Central Helmstedt. The power station, the former monastery mill, was converted to the present residence before 1930.

Count George was highly musical, painted large-format oil paintings and wooden sculptures created. His motives were, according to the prevailing taste, romantic landscapes and figures from the Greek heroic legends. In the St. Johannis Church in Ringelsheim the altarpiece are obtained with Christ and the twelve disciples in life size of him. Likewise, he created in 1883 the painting of the church ceiling.

Progeny

George and Marie had five children:

  • Graf Ernst August (1867-1934) was a correspondent for various newspapers in London.

Leopold (1895-1947), a son of his first marriage changed his name to John Decker and became an artist in Los Angeles.

Count Guido (1923-1944), a son of the second marriage was missing in Russia.

  • Walter (1868-1941) was heir to Ringelsheim. He married Ada Freiin Knigge from Beienrode and they had three children. her son

Count Johann Georg von der Decken (1912-1998) married Ilse Maria née Baroness von Heyking. They farmed Annenhof and Benzerhof.

  • Torah (1869-1951) married Benedict from the ceiling. He was a farmer on Ritterhof and they had three children.
  • Vera (1884-1965) married Hermann Graf von dem Bussche. They farmed the estate Ippenburg and as a widow she lived at Castle Neuenhof.
