Gete

The Gete at Halen

The Gete (French Gette ) is a river in Flanders, Belgium. It arises in Budingen, a borough of Zoutleeuws by the confluence of the Little Gete and Grote Gete. The Gete flows in a northerly direction and empties behind Halen in the Demer.

The Gete, which was navigable in 1525 to Tienen previously formed the boundary between the Prince-Bishopric of Liège and the Duchy of Brabant.

The bridge over the Gete at Halen was the subject of the Battle of Halen between German and Belgian troops, which ended with the defeat of the German soldiers in the First World War.
