The Ghanaian Sign Language was brought into relationship with the American Sign Language (ASL ) and the Nigerian Sign Language in 1957 by the missionary Andrew Foster to Ghana.
Compared to ASL, there are some new and local gestures and some words that are different from the ASL. There are still large parts of the deaf population due to insufficient promotion of sign language is not able to communicate. There are programs initiated, dedicated to this task.
