Ghost Dad

Ghost Dad - Messages from Dad is an American comedy film directed by Sidney Poitier from the year 1990.

Action

The widower Elliot Hopper has no time for his three children. He is regarded as a workaholic and works as the only African- American in a leadership position of a large prestigious company. Hopper boarding a taxi. The driver turns out to be devil worshipers. He holds Elliot mistaken for Satan and panics. The taxi is off the road and crashes off a bridge into a river. Hopper drags himself back on the road. To his dismay, he discovers that he is no longer visible for most people - he has changed for the spirit. Again he gets in stress: Its time as spirit is restricted and he must secure the future of his children before he comes to the afterlife. The disembodiment as spirit but also has advantages: it can slip through telephone lines, sit unnoticed on lampshades, walk through walls, and it has many other useful skills that are not available to survivors. The end of the story develops unexpectedly. With the help of a "ghost doctor " and his children, plagued father can still slip back into his mortal coil. That he has now been fired, however, he does not feel more than bad, because he has learned in the time of his " Spirit One" that are his children, which he had neglected at first because of his work the most important thing in his life.

Reviews

  • Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun - Times, the film is not funny. He criticized the script as inconsistent and illogical. He also wrote that although Bill Cosby is not a great performer, but in the TV shows acceptable play. Ebert surprised the "excessive " display of Cosby in this film, which stand in contrast to the representations of the other actor.
  • Rita Kempley wrote in The Washington Post, the movie had no depth. He was too happy, to be considered witty.

  • Omar Gooding, Salim Grant and Brooke Fontaine were nominated in 1991 for the Young Artist Award.
