Giampaolo Caruso

Giampaolo Caruso ( born August 15, 1980 in Avola ) is an Italian racing cyclist.

Career

Giampaolo Caruso was 2001 European Champion Under 23 class, and in October of the same year he was in Lisbon vice world champion Yaroslav Popovych behind in the same category. He then got a professional contract with the Spanish cycling team ONCE - Eroski. His first professional victory he celebrated at the 2003 Tour Down Under on the fifth stage. Since 2004 Caruso goes for the follow - Liberty Seguros team, which participates in the meantime on the UCI ProTour. In the Tour of Lombardy, he came in 2005 in the small leading group to the winner Paolo Bettini to the finish and took fourth place. At the Giro d' Italia 2006, he arrived at the first summit finish in front of many favorites for fourth place finish.

Doping

2003 Caruso has been banned for doping for six months. 2006 was his name on the Fuentes list.
