Gian Girolamo Albani

Gian Girolamo Albani (* January 3, 1504 in Bergamo, Italy, † April 15, 1591 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Albani was for the Roman Curia in numerous diplomatic jobs go, so to unite among other things, to the Christian princes against the Turks. Without ever having received the ordination of a deacon, he was raised in February 1570 by Pope Pius V Cardinal and received the titular church of San Giovanni a Porta Latina. Albani took part in the conclave of 1585 that elected Pope Sixtus V. He was a friend of the poet Torquato Tasso, renowned canon lawyer and editor of several studies.

Albani came from a 14th century immigrant from Albania to Italy family, from the other cardinals ( Annibale Albani, Alessandro Albani, Gian Francesco Albani and Giuseppe Albani ) and later Pope Clement XI. (actually Gianfrancesco Albani ) have survived.
