Giuseppe Albani

Giuseppe Albani (* September 13, 1750 in Rome, † December 3, 1834 in Pesaro ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church.

Life

Cardinal Albani came from an Italian family who had immigrated in the 14th century from Albania. He studied at the seminary of Siena and later in Rome. Pope Clement XIV granted him the title of Pontifical domestic prelates.

Albani was created on 23 February 1801 by Pope Pius VII to the Cardinal, and received the title Diakonia San Cesareo in Palatio. From 1828, he was cardinal deacon of Santa Maria in Via Lata. During the Napoleonic occupation of Rome, he took refuge from 1808 to 1814 in Vienna. In 1817 he was Prefect of the Congregation Council. Albani took part in the conclave of 1823, Pope Leo XII. chosen, as the conclave of 1829, was chosen at the Pope Pius VIII, and finally the conclave of 1830/1831, Pope Gregory XVI. chose.

He was from the end of March 1829 to December 1830 Cardinal Secretary of State of Pius VIII

From 1830 he was a cardinal librarian of the Roman Church, and thus nominal head of the Vatican library.
