Giardino dei Tarocchi

The Giardino dei Tarocchi ( German: Garden of the Tarot ) is an Art Park, located at Garavicchio, community Capalbio (60 km south of Grosseto), in Tuscany. He was supported by the French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle (1930-2002) designed and implemented from 1979 onwards, together with her husband Jean Tinguely, who was also an artist.

She was inspired here by the Park Guell by Antoni Gaudi in Barcelona and the Sacro Bosco (Eng. Holy Forest ), also known as Parco dei Mostri (Eng. Park of the Monsters ) is known, Pirro Ligorio and Giacomo Barozzi of da Vignola in Bomarzo. With the realization of their fantasy garden, which took nearly two years to complete, the sculptor and painter Niki De Saint Phalle fulfilled a dream she had since the early days of her artistic work. The park is accessible since 1998 in the summer months for the public. The garden, which is perfectly inserted in the Tuscan hills, has a strong esoteric component, such as find some visitors. Twenty-two large figures ( Arcana ) of the Tarot are issued as impressive, colorful sculptures that are up to fifteen meters high in some cases and are covered by colorful ceramics, mirror mosaics and precious glass. Some of the sculptures can be walked inside. The reaction took place with the support of a group of local artists.

The sculptures were made ​​of concrete, with an internal structure of iron grids of different densities, which were woven by hand and welded. Then, the final form was applied shotcrete.

A tufa wall surrounds the park. The architect Mario Botta designed the input in the form of a circular arc.

According to the wishes of the artist, the facility was transformed into a foundation. The Fondazione Il Giardino dei Tarocchi is a private foundation that is focused on the operation and maintenance of the park of wonders.
