Gil Carlos Rodríguez Iglesias

Gil Carlos Rodríguez Iglesias [ xɪl kaɾlɔs roðɾiɣɛθ ɪɣlɛsɪ̯as ] ( born May 26, 1946 in Gijón, Asturias, Spain ) is a Spanish jurist and former President of the European Court.

Rodríguez Iglesias studied at the University of Oviedo, where he graduated in 1968. He received his doctorate in 1975 at the Autonomous University of Madrid and was appointed in 1982 professor of international law at the University of Extremadura, a position he held at the University of Granada 1983-2003.

On January 31, 1986, he was appointed a judge of the European Court of Justice, which he was president between 7 October 1994 to 6 October 2003. In December 2003 he was appointed professor of international law at the Complutense University of Madrid, Madrid. In the same year Iglesias was awarded the Walter Hallstein Prize.
