Gimmelwald
Gimmelwald is a small mountain village in the Bernese Oberland, which lies on a half the height of 1367 meters between Stechelberg ( 867 meters) and Mürren ( 1650). The village is car-free and is only connected to a cable car with Stechelberg and Schilthorn. In Gimmelwald less than 100 people live.
History
1346 Gimmelwald is first mentioned in a deed of purchase. It is a Walser settlement. Even in the bill of sale is spoken by the inhabitants of Lötschern. The oldest house was built in 1658 in the Walser style. Only with the construction of the cableway Mürren Schilthorn ( LSMS ) 1967 Gimmelwald had managed to connect to the transport network. Before, it was just difficult to reach.
Transport and accessibility
You can reach Gimmelwald of Stechelberg by cable car or on foot LSMS on a narrow mountain footpath ( 2.7 km long). There is also a road link with the 2.3 kilometer away neighboring village of Mürren.
Policy
Gimmelwald belongs together with Wengen, Mürren, Isenfluh, and Lauterbrunnen Lauterbrunnen to the political community. The parish includes the entire valley.
Population
In the 1930s, Gimmelwald reached the highest population. Because of the economic crisis at that time it was not easy to find work abroad. So the family members made home useful in agriculture.
Tourism
Tourism offers 150 beds. Since 2008, the via ferrata Gimmelwald is opened. One can get backed up over rocks from Mürren to Gimmelwald.
