Giovanni Bernardino Nanino

Giovanni Bernardino Nanino ( Nanini ) (* around 1560 in Vallerano, † 1623 in Rome ) was an Italian conductor and composer.

He received his musical training from his elder brother Giovanni Maria (c. 1545-1607 ) and then worked in Rome and Damaso as Kapellmeister.

Together with his brother he was a very influential teacher, even if the alleged establishment of the first public music school in Rome is now being pulled by him and his brother in doubt. To the students, he also taught part together with his brother, include Felice Anerio, Gregorio Allegri and Domenico, Vincenzo Ugolini, Antonio Cifra, Domenico Massenzio and Paolo Agostini and Alessandro Costantini.

He created a number of madrigals and motets and other sacred music. It should be noted that he stylistically more and more freely made ​​from Palestrina's influence, who had the work of his brother almost exclusively determined.
