Giovanni Maria Morlaiter

Giovanni Maria Morlaiter (born 15 or February 16, 1699 in Venice, † February 22, 1780 ) was a Venetian sculptor of the Baroque.

Life

His father had come in the 17th century as a glass blower from low- village in the Val Pusteria to Venice. His son Michelangelo Morlaiter was born on December 23, 1729 as a well-known artist in Venice. He lived with his sons, the painter Michelangelo and the sculptor Gregorio on Traghetto di San Mosè in Venice where he died on the night of February 22, 1781.

Works

Numerous factories are located in the church of Santa Maria del Rosario ( Gesuati ) in Venice. From him the marble bas-relief of Field Marshal Johann Matthias von der Schulenburg dates from 1747, located in the large atrium of the Arsenal of Venice.
