Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga

Giovanni Vincenzo Gonzaga ( born December 8, 1540 in Palermo, † December 23, 1591 in Rome ) was the son of Count Ferrante I Gonzaga of Guastalla and Cardinal since 1578.

His mother was Isabella of Capua († September 17, 1559 ), a daughter of Prince Ferdinand of Molfetta. His brother was the Cardinal Francesco II Gonzaga and his uncle Ercole Gonzaga.

Giovanni Vincenzo was a knight of the Order of Malta and Prior of Barletta.

Pope Gregory XIII. got him in the consistory of February 21, 1578 cardinal deacon of Santa Maria from 1583 in Cosmedin. In 1985 he was charged while maintaining the titular church of Cardinal Priest per illa vice.

On August 7, 1587 he was knighted by Pope Sixtus V. Cardinal Priest of the titular church of Santi Bonifacio e Alessio.

After his death, Giovanni Vincenzo was buried in the church of S. Alessio in Rome.
