Giric

Giric mac Dungail (* 9th century, † 889 ) was Scottish king 878-889 and ruled together with his nephew Eochaid.

Eochaid could not be king according to the Tanistry system because he was descended from the daughter of the royal line. However, since he had ambitions to the title of King, he allied himself with Giric to forcibly oust his uncle and cousin Girics Aedh from power. Giric then Eochaid forced to share power with him.

Little is known about the life and reign of Giric. The only certain information is that he was killed in a battle at Dundurn in Perthshire by his nephew Donald. This banished after Eochaid into exile and ascended the throne as Donald II.
