Gisela of Burgundy

Gisela (* 950, † July 21, 1007 or 1006 in Regensburg ) was Duchess of Bavaria, and the mother of Emperor Henry II She was the eldest daughter of King Conrad III. of Burgundy from the Guelph dynasty, probably from his first marriage with a poorly attested Adelana. She was niece of Empress Adelheid, the wife of Otto the Great.

Gisela was married Duke Henry the Wrangler of Bavaria. The engagement took place probably already 965, the marriage was probably completed in the summer of 972. On May 6, 973 her eldest son, the future emperor was born. The time during the detention of her husband she spent in Merseburg.

Gisela was buried in Niedermünster in Regensburg. For her grave her daughter was the magnificent Gisela cross in order.
