Giuseppe de Nittis

Giuseppe Gaetano de Nittis ( born February 25, 1846 in Barletta, † August 22 1884 in St- Germain -en- Laye near Paris ) was an Italian painter of Impressionism.

Life

His first drawing lessons received Giuseppe de Nittis at the local painter Giovanni Battista Calo, who advised him strongly to continue studying in Florence. He was particularly influenced by the artists of the macchiaioli, whom he met in Florence in 1863. He was one of the founders of similarly oriented school of Resina in Naples. Later Giuseppe de Nittis moved to Paris, where he lived until his death. In Paris he met Camille Pissarro, Gustave Caillebotte, Giovanni Boldini, John Singer Sargent, Jacques -Émile Blanche, Edvard Munch and Edgar Degas, who influenced his work later, know.
