Giuseppe Giordani

Giuseppe Giovanni Tommaso Giordani ( Giordano ) (* December 19, 1751 in Naples, † January 4, 1798 in Fermo) was an Italian composer of classical music, his most important work area was the opera.

Giuseppe Giordani was a student of the Conservatory of S. Maria di Loreto in Naples. His teachers were Gennaro Manna (1715-1779), Antonio Sacchini, Pietro Antonio Gallo (around 1695-1777 ) and Fedele Fenaroli ( 1730-1818 ). Among his fellow students were Domenico Cimarosa and Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli. In 1774 he was Kapellmeister at the Cathedral of S. Gennaro of Naples. His first opera " L' Epponina " was performed in 1779.

After the successful performance of the opera " La disfatta di Dario " in 1789 at the Teatro alla Scala of Milan Giordani was Kapellmeister of the cathedral of Fermo. His works have been performed in his lifetime in northern Italy, but also in Madrid, Lisbon and Dresden.

The well-known setting of the poem " Caro mio ben " was attributed to the older brother Tommaso Giordani long time. It is according to recent findings by Giuseppe Giordani possibly.
