Giuseppe Matteo Alberti

Giuseppe Matteo Alberti ( born September 20, 1685 in Bologna, † February 18, 1751 ) was an Italian composer and violinist of the Baroque.

Life

Giuseppe Alberti studied violin with Carlo Andrea Manzolini (1655-1737) and composition with Pietro Maria Minelli (ca. 1630-1712 ), Floriano Arresti ( 1650-1719 ) and Giacomo Antonio Perti. In 1705 he became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica, from 1709 he was a violinist in the " cappella musicale " at the Basilica of San Petronio. In the period 1721-1746 six times Alberti was appointed Chairman ( principe ) of the Accademia Filarmonica. From 1726 to his death, he was the bandmaster of the Church of S. Giovanni in Monte in Bologna and from 1734 deputy Kapellmeister under Giacomo Antonio Perti to S. Domenico.

Alberti's concerti were successful especially in England, due not to high with its clear form of musical expression and technical requirements. They are among the first Italian works in which the direct influence of Antonio Vivaldi is clear, especially in op 1 ( three-movement system, ritornello in the fast outer movements, lyrical solo part in the slow movements ). The Concerti without solo instrument reminiscent of the works of Tomaso Albinoni appropriate, the sonatas of Corelli post- era remain connected.
