Giuseppe Pecci

Giuseppe Pecci SJ ( born December 13, 1807 in Anagni, Italy, † February 8, 1890 in Rome ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church and the brother of Pope Leo XIII.

1824 entered the Jesuit order, he was ordained a priest in 1837. After he had in 1848 resigned from the Jesuit order, he was born on September 9, 1878 Deputy Librarian of the Catholic Church. From Pope Leo XIII. created cardinal on 12 May 1879 he was awarded on 15 May 1879, the title Diakonia S. Agata alla Suburra. Since February 16, 1884 Prefect of the Congregation for Education, he was on 8 October 1884 Member of the Commission for the historical studies. In 1887 he returned to the community of Jesuits. From 1887 until his death he was cardinal deacon.
