Giuseppe Prezzolini

Giuseppe Prezzolini ( born January 27, 1882 in Perugia, † July 14, 1982 in Lugano ) was an Italian journalist, writer and publisher.

Life and work

Prezzolini was born in Perugia, the son of a prefect. Due to his father's profession, the family moved in his youth to often. Prezzolinis mother died during his childhood.

After the loss of his father, he began to work as a journalist and editor at the age of 21 years. In 1903 he founded, together with Giovanni Papini the journal Leonardo, published until 1908. In the same year he founded the magazine La Voce, which at the time of its existence - gained some importance with articles on literature, politics and society - also thanks to many famous authors.

During World War II he served in the Italian army in the end as captain and participated in the battles of the year 1918 at the Monte Grappa. In 1929 he moved to the U.S. and taught at Columbia University in New York City. After 25 years abroad, he returned to Italy, the Amalfi Coast.

In later years he worked for the newspaper Il Resto del Carlino of Bologna and moved in 1968 to Lugano in the Swiss Ticino. There he died in 1982 at the age of one hundred years.
