Giuseppe Vasi

Giuseppe Vasi ( born August 27, 1710 in Corleone, Sicily, † April 16, 1782 in Rome ) was an Italian artist and Vedutenstecher.

Life

Vasi was in Rome Sebastiano Conca of students, Pier Leone Ghezzi and Filippo Juvarra.

Between 1746 and 1761 Vasi published 10 volumes with 240 illustrations of Roman monuments. At this time, the Baroque period in Rome approached its end, so that one can speak of an inventory here.

Among his pupils was Giovanni Battista Piranesi, however after a short time fell out with him. While Piranesi detail dealt with the ruins of ancient Rome, the goal Vasis was a representation of the Rome of his time. Trained as an architect, he himself was able to accurately represent the monuments of Rome in all its details.
