The Abyssinian gladiolus ( Gladiolus callianthus, Syn Acidanthera bicolor Hochst. ), Also called star - Gladiolus, is a species of the genus Gladiolus ( Gladiolus ) in the family of Iris Family ( Iridaceae ).

Features

The Abyssinian gladiolus is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches the plant height of 60 to 110 centimeters. As outlasting makes this Geophyt tubers which are up to 2.5 inches wide. The leaves are up to 2.5 inches wide. The 1-6, sometimes smell to 10 flowers. The Perigonröhre (6 ) from 7 to 10 inches long, curved and very slim. The Abyssinian gladiolus comes in East Africa from Ethiopia and Eritrea to Malawi and Mozambique to slightly shaded rock sites before.

System

A variety of Abyssinian Gladiolus Gladiolus is callianthus var murielae Perry. The plants are usually higher. The stem is rough, the Perigonflecken are maroon.

Use

The Abyssinian gladiolus is scattered used as an ornamental plant for borders in groups and summer discounts as well as a cut flower. It is in culture at least since 1895. Sophistication which the variety is usually murielae.
