Gladys Tantaquidgeon

Gladys Tantaquidgeon (* June 15, 1899; † November 1, 2005 in Uncasville, Connecticut ) was an American anthropologist, matriarch and medicine woman of indigenous origin ( Mohegan ).

Life and work

As a descendant of the Mohegan sachem Uncas Tantaquidgeon grew up traditionally. From 1919 she began studying anthropology at Frank Bacon at the University of Pennsylvania. Time of their life that stretches over three centuries, it was committed to the preservation of indigenous languages ​​, arts and customs.
