Glamis

Glamis [ ɡlɑ ː mz ] (Gaelic: Glamais ) is a village in the Scottish unitary authority Angus, which corresponds to the traditional Scottish county of Forfarshire. It is about 35 km north-east of Perth and 17 km north of Dundee located. The nearest town is Forfar. In 1991, Glamis recorded 259 inhabitants, which meant a slight increase to the value of 205 from the year 1961.

History

The village is situated on a stream called Glamis Burn and was formerly chief town of the same name and location of the Parish's 1792 errichteren Parishkirche with 850 seats. Before the rectory there is a stone, which commemorates the murder of the Scottish king Malcolm II in Glamis in 1034. In the area around the village several obelisks and Standing stones are found.

A few hundred meters north of Glamis is probably a hunting lodge dating from the early 11th century, declining Glamis Castle, in which Malcolm II probably met his death. Glamis is located just off the A94, which connects Perth with around ten kilometers east of nearby Forfar. In addition, the A928, which leads coming from the direction of Dundee to Kirriemuir runs through Glamis. With the airports of Dundee and Perth are two airports within a radius of 30 km. Glamis was once connected via its own station to the rail network, the route has since been abandoned.
