Glanegg is a municipality with 1906 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in Feldkirchen district in the state of Carinthia in Austria.

Geography

Geographical location

The villages in the municipality are located at an altitude 486-867 meters in the Glan valley between St. Veit and Feldkirchen.

History

The villages Deblach, Gramilach and diving village are the Castle Glanegg 1121 first mentioned ( a rescued from ruin castle above the Glantales today ) in 993, . The castle was at that time in possession of the Carinthian Duke Henry III. from the family of Eppensteiner, after his death, she went to his godson, Count Bernard of Trixen. According to 2001 census Glanegg has 2027 inhabitants, of which 96.8 % are Austrian citizens. 88.2 % of the population are Roman Catholics, 6.2% to 0.8 % are Protestant Church and the Islamic faith. 4.0% of the population are without religious confession.

Structures

  • Castle ruins Glanegg
  • The parish church of St. Gandolf in the eponymous village was acquired 1060-1076 through bartering with the diocese of Salzburg from the Eppensteinern. The full parochial rights received St. Gandolf 1285-1293. The church stands on a hill and is surrounded by a cemetery with a final defensive wall. Its present form in the Gothic style was the church building probably in the 14th century.
  • Today's Branch Church of St. Mary in Maria Feicht was documented in 1060-1076 was first mentioned as " ecclesia in Fuihta ". She was initially proprietary church of Eppensteiner with parochial rights, but later dropped from the branch of St. Gandolf. It was newly built in the first quarter of the 16th century as a pilgrimage church in late Gothic style.
  • The parish church of St. George in Friedlach was first mentioned as a parish in 1169 and 1214-18 as a church.

Regular events

The annual Vierbergelauf also runs through the municipality of Glanegg. Today's route leads from two churches over the Glantalboden over to Sankt Leonhard, the Kulm up and up through a forest after Liemberg at the foot of St. Vitus mountain. Coat of arms

The internal shield coat of arms shows the Golden Lion of the Lords of Glanegg, but the background was changed from blue to red. The two directed from the corners of this internal shield outward oak leaves symbolize the Friedloseiche, the old courthouse tree of Friedlach, the three spruce branches in the lower hem play on the name origin of Maria Feicht (originally Fuihta ) of the spruce on.
