History

The exact date of the first mention of the name is not possible. " Touernich " (after Kranzmayer " village on the good Bach" ), the former name of Berg's control, was mentioned in an undated note donation of the monastery Admont, whose creation was limited to the years 1130-1145. 1147 will see a donation of two Huben in Glödnitz and a guest house "ad Touernich " of the " Reginher de Touernich ", son of Swiker of Hollenburg and probably a vassal of Bernard of Spanheim to Admont. 1169 was cited in a document a " Reginherus de Steyrberch ", which is the oldest mention of today's community name.

From the 15th century the present Wimitzer country road won as a trade in importance.

After the French wars of 1809 Upper Carinthia belonged to the Illyrian provinces of France. The border between France and the Austrian Empire was until 1814 through the middle of Steuerberg. On this fact still echoes a landmark (with wrong year) at the Goggausee country road.

In the formation of political communities today's municipal area was first incorporated into the greater community of Feldkirchen. However, the cadastral Wabl, alto and Neusteuerberg argued already in 1864 for the secession of Feldkirchen. The following year, the Carinthian parliament approved the issue, so that in 1866 out of the three mentioned and the KG Wachsenberg constituted the community, " Steier mountain". Since then, the municipality has changed little: In 1923, the southernmost part of Wachsenberg to the then independent municipality Waiern and in the course of community structural reform 1972/73 Steuerberg received smaller portions of the municipalities of Himmelberg and Weitensfeld.
