Glaser-Dirks DG-600

The DG- 600 is a single-seat high performance glider with flaps of DG Flugzeugbau. The plane of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP ) can be regarded as the successor of DG- 200 and DG- 400 and was offered from the start with 15 and 17 -meter wingspan. From 1989 the model range by a self-launching variant DG- 600M has been enhanced. As of 1991, variants with 18 meter span by larger for proper connection ( DG-600/18, DG-600/18M ) and winglets were available.

Design and development

The DG -600 fuselage is based on the hull of the DG- 400, but has a slimmer tail unit with a 7 -liter ballast tank in the tail fin. Hood and instrument panel are virtually identical to those of other DG aircraft.

A special feature of the control surfaces are the flaperons. The wings have a lower profile and a greater stretch than previous DG- gliders, resulting in higher performance but poorer results in slow flight characteristics. The negative effects of the design used in particular in the 15 - meter version to fruition. The aircraft was therefore less successful in the market and after a fire in the production halls in 1992, in which the surface forms were destroyed, the production of the DG- 600 after only 112 units has been set. As the successor model was offered later, the DG- 800.
