Glenn L. Martin

Glenn Luther Martin ( * January 17, 1886, † December 5, 1955 ) was an American businessman and pilot.

Martin took over 1908 points of sale for Ford and Maxwell in Santa Ana. After 1908, a private plane, a copy of the machine by Glenn Curtiss had built with a 15 hp Ford motor as a drive, he brought in the years 1909 and 1910, even flying at.

He then founded on 16 August 1912, the Glenn L. Martin Aircraft Company with 14 employees to produce its aircraft and market. Under the sign of the First World War he joined his company in 1916 initially with the Wright Company together to form the Wright -Martin Aircraft Company. However, Martin retired already on September 10, 1917 back because he did not agree with the situation there, and founded the Glenn L. Martin Company.

Martin paid no attention to questions of detail of his business. His aircraft were constructed by hired engineers and production was organized by appropriate specialists. In addition to Donald Wills Douglas, Lawrence Bell, James Smith McDonnell and William Boeing was initially an employee of Glenn Martin.

In 1932 he was awarded the Collier Trophy for his outstanding achievements. Martin led his company for over 40 years.
