Glenury distillery

Glenury or Glenury Royal was a whiskey distillery in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is attributed to the whiskey Highlands.

History

The distillery was founded in 1825 by Robert Barclay Allardice -, a Member of the British Parliament, in Stonehaven. A little later, the distillery of King George IV received permission to perform the additional name Royal, a privilege that until today only two other whiskey distilleries ( Royal Lochnagar Royal Brackla and ) was bestowed. In 1857, the distillery of William Ritchie from Glasgow was purchased. In 1938 it became part of Associated Scottish Distillers and finally 1953 Distiller Company Ltd.. (DCL ), which. Malt Distillers Ltd in Scottish ( SMD) came up. In 1965, the plant was outdated and the number of stills increased to four. The last fires were made ​​in 1985 and the distillery then shut down. The site was sold in 1992 and the buildings were demolished in 1993. Today the streets Glenury Road and Glenury Crescent and a bus stop are reminiscent of the former lying in the immediate vicinity of the distillery.

Production

The water used was from the River Cowie. Last two coarse blisters ( wash stills ) and fine blisters ( spirit stills ) were installed.

Samples

Glenury filled many of his fires from as single malts. Even today, these whiskeys are still available as part of the Rare Malt Series. In addition, there were a number of bottlings independent bottler.
