Gloria Contreras Roeniger

María del Carmen Gloria Contreras (y) Roeniger, known as an artist as Gloria Contreras (* November 15, 1934 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican dancer and choreographer.

Biography

Contreras first learned to dance from 1946 to 1954 in Mexico at the French Nelsy Dambre. From 1956 to 1964 she attended the School of American Ballet, where she was taught by Pierre Vladimirov, Felia Doubrovska, Anatole Oboukhoff, Muriel Stuart and George Balanchine in New York. From 1958 to 1965 she also learned in New York with Carola Trier.

Today she teaches choreography at the Choreografiewerkstatt founded in 1970, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM ), whose director she is. Contreras belongs since 2003 to the International Council for Dance of UNESCO and is a member of the Academia de Artes.
