Glyn Daniel

Glyn Edmund Daniel ( born April 23, 1914 in Barry, Wales, † 13 December 1986) was a British archaeologist.

Life

Born and raised in South Wales, Daniel studied geology at Cardiff University before at St John 's College, Cambridge Archaeology and Anthropology studied since 1932 and taught there after graduating.

From 1974 to 1981 Daniel Disney Professor of Archaeology at Cambridge University and had so held one of the most prestigious professorships in this field. He was also from 1958 to 1985 editor of the journal Antiquity.

His area of ​​research was in particular the European Neolithic; special achievements, however, are in the field of aerial photography, especially in the work-up and presentation of archaeological research history. Daniel also became involved in the mediation of archeology to a broad public. He is the author or editor of many well into German translated popular science publications and rows. Under the pseudonym Dilwyn Rees, he wrote detective novels.
