GNU core utilities

The GNU core utilities, short coreutils, are one from the GNU project released under the General Public License collection of basic command-line programs such as ls used to list files. Summarize the previously offered individually textutils ( for texts), shellutils ( for the shell), and fileutils ( for files) and are based on the POSIX standard. The collection is available for GNU / Linux the functionality of usual Unix commands available and is available for many different operating systems, especially for Unix and cygwin for Microsoft Windows. It supports many hardware platforms, such as x86, SPARC, ARM, and PowerPC.

The programs are usually very small and limited to a specific task. This allows them to be easily inserted into larger commands or programs ( Unix philosophy ).
