Goblin Valley State Park
Goblin Valley State Park is a state park in southeast Utah near Hanksville Utah State Route 24, The park was established on 24 August 1964 and has an area of 12.2 km ². There is a visitor center and a campground.
History
Cowboys in search of cattle first discovered this valley before the late 1920s, Arthur Chaffin met with two companions in search of an alternative route between Green River and Caine Ville on this valley. Chaffin was so impressed that he returned in 1949 for several days in the of him " Pilztal " ( Mushroom Valley) area referred to and the formations examined and photographed.
In October 2013, a man of "Boy Scouts of America" propped against one of the more than 1 cubic meter rock heads, so he broke off from his narrow junction and about two feet deep fell. A video showing the man claims to have acted out of concern for the children, was placed on YouTube and picked up by newspapers. His act he denied, saying: " We are concerned here only about saving lives. " The park administration is now threatening consequences. Also by the U.S. Scouts were criticized, there are ' reasonable steps ' initiated.
Geology
Erosion in particular by wind and water have shaped the course of millions of years from the sandstone of the valley figures, which are reminiscent of mushrooms or goblins - hence the name Goblin Valley, goblin valley.
Initial situation is in horizontal layers of deposited sand which is solidified into sandstone and broken up later by vertical cracks in characteristic distances. Through progressive downward erosion by water and in particular its ingredients to walls, islands and pillars form of addition gaps and channels. Erosion tends rather round shapes, but on vertical surfaces of exposed columns incoming wind or water flow builds through impacting of sand particles less resistant layer zones more from. This results in certain heights evenly to the constriction of columns, then remember a series of squat, waisted figures with round heads.
Flora and Fauna
The vegetation is limited to plants, which is the hot, dry desert climate have adapted and the blowing sand. Examples are Mormon Tea ( Ephedra viridis ), Russian thistle ( Salsola collina ), Indian Rice Grass ( Oryzopsis hymenoides ) and various cacti.
Most animals are nocturnal. There are, inter alia rabbits, scorpions, rattlesnakes and coyotes.

- For the sci -fi spoof Galaxy Quest - Planetshakers through space the Goblin Valley has been the setting for the scenes with the rock monster.
- The American rock band The Killers shot the video for her song "Human " in Goblin Valley.
- In the film The Tree of Life scenes were used by the Goblin Valley at the end.
