Godfrey Miyanda

Godfrey Miyanda (* 1950 in Nampeyo, Monze ) is a politician from Zambia.

1969 Godfrey Miyanda joined the Zambian army and was until 1977, Brigadier General of the Zambian armed forces, such as Director of MSB the army. After his retirement in 1977, he drove tractors and turned to politics. He was a founding member of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD ). 1981 and 1989 suspected him of former President Kenneth Kaunda of involvement in a coup attempt. Miyanda was Vice President of Zambia from 1993 to 1997, Minister of Education from 1998 to early 2001. He was expelled from the MMD, as he drove behind together with other Frederick Chiluba's plan to write a third term as president in the Constitution. He stepped to the 2001 election even as presidential candidate of the Heritage Party to, in which he could unite 8.09 percent of the votes. His party was able to win four seats in the National Assembly of Zambia. In the 2006 election, the political balance in the country but had shifted so that he as a presidential candidate scored only 1.57 percent and his party missed a place in the National Assembly. Its stronghold is the southern province, in which he obtained in 2006 74.35 percent.

Godfrey Miyanda was a critic of the constitutional reform in 2003, which was too British and Zambian not enough. He himself politically rooted in the UNIP and is strongly tied Christian. It belongs to the old elite of Zambia.

Godfrey Miyanda was born in 1950 and has seven children.
