The Godfrey Okoye University ( GOU ) is a private university in Enugu State of Nigeria. It is located in Enugu and was founded in 2008 by Christian Anieke and is connected to the Diocese of Enugu. On 3 November 2009 it was accredited by the National University Commission of Nigeria ( NUC ).

Campus

Currently, the campus in the Thinker's Corner is located in Enugu. The new main campus in Ugwuomo Nike outside the city will be in 2014 based and is still under construction. There is also the farm of the University.

Foundation

The university was named after Godfrey Okoye, the second bishop of the Diocese of Enugu and education coordinator for the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. The University has started after the establishment with 215 students, was the 2011/2012 awarded about 500 places and had the end of 2012 more than 1500 students. On 7 December 2013, the first graduation ceremony of Godfrey Okoye University was held in the new Jonathan Ebele Goodluck Arena on the campus in Thinker's Corner. 100 graduates received bachelor's degrees that day.

Strategic Direction

The philosophy of Godfrey Okoye University is based on the nature of man as a social and dialogue -seeking beings. Thus, the University understands education as a dialogical process of appropriation and dissemination of knowledge.

For the vision of the GOU include graduates with exceptional learning ability, balanced character and a personality that strives for consistent epistemological unit.

The objectives of the University are based on their philosophy: quality knowledge for personality development of students that promotes a religious, cultural and epistemological dialogue.

Structure

Fundamental decisions in research and teaching as well as decisions affecting the University as a whole, shall be established in the GOU by the University Council and by the Rector of the University. The Senate is responsible for constitutional amendments and for the revision of framework regulations of the University. In the Senate, sitting both professors and academic and non- academic staff.

Finances

Tuition fees are currently the equivalent of about € 600 per semester. This includes accommodation in the student halls of residence, where male and female students to live separately. The University is open to students of all nationalities with every ethnic and religious background. The University is funded by the semester fee and is supported by the Diocese of Enugu and benefactors from Nigeria, the U.S., Germany and Austria.

Services for Students

The Godfrey Okoye University offers its students in addition to lectures and things to do. Thus, next to the National Sports Football traditional dances and music groups are maintained, but also hip-hop and theater. Every day there are general prayer times for the various religions, in separate rooms.

Library

The Library of the University helps teachers and students to have access in the broadest possible way, both on the current state of knowledge of a discipline as well as the historical development of this knowledge. It provides the students, the teachers and their assistants with technical literature and classical works. Thanks to a donation from the National Agency for the Development of computer technologies in the year 2013, the library has 15 computers, a server, printer, scanner and Internet connection via satellite, air conditioning and solar panels and offers students and faculty as access to more than 40,000 ebooks. The printed media still play an important role in the users of the library.

A reading room allows users direct access to the existing library collection, a special magazine reading room, can be found in the current books and journals, provides access to more than 6,000 international journals.

The librarians provide assistance in the use and research, but also help in copying and printing.

Each new student must attend a general course on the use of the library, which also includes the scientific research on the Internet as well as legal and ethical basis for the use of information technologies.

Faculties and subjects

There are three faculties at the University: Management and Social Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences and Teacher Education.

The University has partner universities and collaborations with various institutions abroad.
