Enugu State

Enugu Nigeria is a federal state with its capital in Enugu, the ( 2005), with 653 436 inhabitants and largest city.

Geography

The state is located in the south of the country and is bordered to the northwest by the Kogi State, in the northeast on the Benue State, to the south by Abia State, on the west by the Anambra State and on the east by the state of Ebonyi.

History

On February 3, 1976, the Anambra State with its capital in Enugu State from the former "East Central" was formed. On August 27, 1991, the State has been divided into the states of Anambra with its capital Awka and Enugu with the same capital. First Governor of Anambra State earlier was between March 1976 and July 1978 John atom Kpera. Current Governor of Enugu since May 29, 1999 Chimaroke Nnamani.

Management

The state is divided into 17 Local Government Areas. These are: Aninri, Awgu, Enugu East, Enugu North, Enugu South, Ezeagu, Igbo Etiti, Igbo - Eze North, Igbo - Eze South, Isi - Uzo, Nkanu East, Nkanu West, Nsukka, Oji River, Udenu, Udi and Uzo - Uwani.

Economy

The state is predominantly used for agricultural purposes. There are grown, among others cotton, coconuts and rice. The extraction of mineral resources is significant. There are coal, limestone, iron ore and bauxite mined and promoted oil and natural gas.

In Enugu there are a variety of industrial companies. These include: Enugu Vegetable Oil Limited pruducts in Nachi, Niger Gas Company Limited in Emene, aluminum Product Limited in Ohebe dim and Enugu, Building Material Industries Ltd.. in Ezzambgo, Emenite Ltd.. in Emene, Anambra Motor Manufacturing Company Ltd. , Premier Cashew Industries Ltd.. in Oghe, Niger Steels Industries Ltd.. in Emene, Sunrise Flour Mill Ltd. in Emene and others.
