Gold Key Comics

Gold Key was a comic book publisher in the United States. The publishing house was founded in 1962 as an imprint of Western Publishing. 1984 all publications have been discontinued.

History

By 1962 many comics from Western Publishing published by Dell Comics publisher, so among other comics with characters from Disney, Warner Brothers and Hanna- Barbera. After the contract expired with Dell, founded Western with a Gold Key imprint publisher to publish the comics there. Here, Gold Key Comics took over the Dell. Some new signatories were recruited, including the authors, Don Glut, Len Wein and Mark Evanier and artist Mike Royer.

Also own series were published, Magnus - Robot Fighter, Turok Son of Stone and Doctor Solar. Later, their own series to series, and to television series, including Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, and comics came to DePatie - Freleng productions.

End of the 70 years the sales of comics fell sharply. This meant that many license holders themselves sold their comics, which Gold Key lost a large part of its range. Gold Key tried in the following period, with merchandising products like action figures to increase sales or to compensate for the drop in sales of comics. Since this did not happen, Gold Key was dropped in 1981 by Western Publishing, most until then published comics were published by the Whitman imprint. 1984, the company was finally abandoned.

The three series Magnus - Robot Fighter, Turok Son of Stone and Doctor Solar were launched later by Valiant publishing in a new form again.
