Göltzsch

The Göltzsch near the Göltzschtalbrücke

The Göltzsch is a 40 kilometer long tributary of the White Elster in the Vogtland.

Course

The Göltzsch has two arms source, the longer Göltzsch White and Red Göltzsch. Both originate in swampy depressions in around 700 meters above sea level in the forest area north of Green Forest Hammer Bridge in the Erzgebirge / Vogtland.

The more western White Göltzsch it comes from the so-called Göltzschgesprenge and takes the hammer jumper district plan bridge on water the river Mulde. This is brought about through a Floßgraben and at the end of the artificial waterfalls crack cases. The White Göltzsch is now entering the conservation area Upper Göltzschtal. Here, a steep-sided valley has been formed. At its end in the city of Falkenstein / Vogtl. the river to the dam Falkenstein is dammed. The following downriver community Ellenfeld was built 2 km along the watercourse.

The Red Göltzsch rises immediately to the west of the road hunter green Beerheide. In Beerheide the stream cuts through a Quarzitzug, so that both sides of the valley rocks are visible. Most striking is the 25 meter high Rothelstein overlooking summit. At its foot, right on the Red Göltzsch, is the natural stage Rothelstein.

On the northern outskirts of Elle field is White and Red Göltzsch unite at a height of 485.8 meters above sea level to Göltzsch. Current now flows through the cities Auerbach / Vogtl. and Rodewisch that are already grown together along with Falkenstein and Elle field to a settlement area. The next city in Göltzschtal follows Lengenfeld, where the flow direction changes from north to northwest. When you place white sand crosses 35 meters above the federal motorway 72 per Göltzschtalbrücke white sand of the valley. Next it goes to the mill peppers over after Mühlwand at Rotschau. After that the towns Mylau and Netzschkau and the famous railway bridge Göltzschtalbrücke the Saxon- Bavarian Railway, the largest brick bridge in the world and landmarks of the Vogtland follow. Subsequently, the Göltzsch forms in a rocky, almost gorge-like valley the border between Saxony and Thuringia, before flowing to the south of the Thuringian district Greiz at an altitude of about 260 meters above sea level in the Weisse Elster.

Gold deposits

At various points the Göltzsch was previously sought in three historical stages for gold deposits and also by elaborate gold wash, the so-called placer gold, won this precious metal. From the various times this placer gold extraction can be found on the banks of a few, in the meantime by agriculture is not leveled mound of rubble overburden, which are called Raith Alden. Nowadays it is possible hobby gold washers occasionally wash in some places small gold flakes in a size between 0.1 and 2 mm.

Whether the name of the river derives solely from altsorbischen Goliza and thus " heath forest stream ", is controversial in part. Because on the other hand is also suspected that in the naming of this watercourse the word gold with inside plays.

More

Between Falkenstein and Lengenfeld runs along the left-hand flank of the Göltzsch a part of the railway line Zwickau- Falkenstein. Einstein also followed to Lengenfeld the railway line Lengenfeld Göltzschtalbrücke the course of Göltzsch. The route but was abandoned in 1967. Today is applied on the former railway embankment Göltzschtal the bike path, which is already completed in sections.
