Goose Lake (Oregon-California)

The Goose Lake is a lake in the highlands on the border between the two U.S. states of California and Oregon. The northern end of the water body is located in Lake County, Oregon, the southern end in Modoc County, California, with a greater percentage of the water surface on California eliminated. The lake is located far inland in the mountainous country at an altitude of over 1,400 meters above sea level. For a mountain lake, however, the Goose Lake is surprisingly shallow, the deepest point is only eight feet deep. This is due to the flat landscape of the area, which is fairly flat despite the great height. Its length is 42 km, the average width is 15 km. The lake is fed in particular by numerous small mountain streams around during the Goose Lake is considered to be no outlet. Seasonal is a flowing connection to the Pit River, a tributary of the Sacramento River. The water level is also subject to greater fluctuations particularly due to the shallow depth throughout the year.

The area of the water body is relatively sparsely populated, found on both sides, however, some tourist attractions such as campsites on the lake so a moderate rise of tourism is recorded. Especially smaller boat rides are offered at Goose Lake. Fishing is not operated. Around the lake there is also a complex ecosystem, especially aquatic birds at Goose Lake.
