Goran Vlaović

Goran Vlaović ( born August 7, 1972 in Nova Gradiška, SFR Yugoslavia ) is a former Croatian football player at the position of the striker.

Association

Vlaović began his professional career in 1989 at the Croatian club NK Osijek. After two seasons in which he scored eleven goals in 24 games, he moved to Dinamo Zagreb in 1992. With Zagreb he won the Croatian Cup (1993) and the Cup (1994); he came to a total of 81 Erstligaeinsäze, in which he scored 61 goals. Thanks to its high hit rate (0.75 goals per match ) to Vlaović also secured in 1993 and 1994, the Croatian scorer cannon. His 29 goals in the 1993/94 season was the record in the first Croatian league until Eduardo Alves da Silva in the 2006/07 season marked more hits.

In 1994 Vlaović abroad and signed with Italian club Calcio Padova a contract. After 18 goals in 50 matches for Padova in 1996, he moved to the Spanish club Valencia CF, which won the Super Cup (1999) and the UEFA Intertoto Cup ( 1998) in the next four years in addition to the Spanish Cup (1999). After 73 missions in the Primera División, where he scored 17 goals, he moved in 2000 to the Greek club Panathinaikos Athens. With Panathinaikos he won the 2004 Greek Cup and the Cup and ended after 64 games ( 29 goals) in the same year his active career.

National

Vlaović was between 1992 and 2002 a member of the Croatian national team and participated with this part in the World Championships in 1998 and 2002. In 1996 he played in the European Championship in England, where he scored the first goal by Croatia in an international tournament at the opening game against Turkey. His biggest success was the third place at the 1998 World Cup in France. In 52 games for Croatia Vlaović scored 15 goals, putting it together with Darijo Srna behind Davor Šuker (45 goals) in second place of the most goals in the national team.
