Gordon is a city in Palo Pinto County in the U.S. state of Texas in the United States.

Geography

The city is located on Highway 193, the Highway 919 and the Missouri Pacific Railroad in the south of the county and has a total area of 2.5 km ² without significant water surface.

History

The city was named after HL Gordon, an engineer of the Texas and Pacific Railroad, which in 1880 moved its tracks here. The train robber Rube Burrow came over here in January 1887 his second train.

Demographic data

According to the census of 2000, there were 451 people in 190 households, and 128 families. The population density was 179.5 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 96.23 % White, 0.00 % African American, 1.11 % Native American, 0.00 % Asian, 0.44 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.11 % from other ethnic groups. Approximately 1.11% were of mixed descent, and 5.10% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 190 households 28.4 % had children under the age of 18 living with them. 57.9 % were married couples living together. 8.4% were single mothers and 32.6 % were non-families. 30.5 % of all households were single-person households, and 22.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.37 and the average family size amounted to 2.93.

25.9 % of the population were under 18 years old, 7.8 % from 18 to 24, 22.2% 25-44, 23.5% from 45 to 64, and 20.6 % who were 65 years or older. The average age was 41 years. For every 100 females of all ages were 79.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, 80.5 males.

The median income for a household was $ 33,056, and the median income for a family $ 41,750. Males have a median income of $ 40,156 versus $ 20,781 for females. The per capita income was $ 18,307. 13.2 % of the population and 8.1% of families are below the poverty line. Of which 21.4 % have children under the age of 18 and 15.3 % of those 65 or older.
