Gorky's Zygotic Mynci

Gorky 's Zygotic Mynci were a Welsh Britpop band, which was founded in Carmarthen in 1991. They sang their songs in both Welsh and English. The band broke up in May 2006.

Biography

The band was founded by Euros Childs, John Lawrence and Richard James, as they still went to school. With Sion Lane and Steffan Cravos they took the 1991 self-released cassette Allumette on. Lane and Cravos left the band around the Welsh singing rap group to establish Tystion and drummer Osian Evans was recruited to the second cassette of 1992 Peiriant Pleser. Then Childs sister Megan joined the band and they signed a record contract with the Welsh label Ankst.

The first release of the band in 1992 was Ankst patio, a ten-minute collection of various live, home and studio recording, which was later expanded for the 1995 released CD version. In 1994 the first full studio album Tatay. 1995 replaced Euros Rowlands Osian Evans on drums to record the second album bwyd Time. Both albums were produced by Alan Holmes, who also contributed the artwork. These early publications show a wide range of influences and styles.

The band was often played on BBC Radio 1 by John Peel, which was very unusual for such a station that normally plays little Welsh music.

Gorky 's Zygotic Mynci also released numerous singles and EPs in Ankst. The compilation, published in 1996 Introducing the first release of the band in the U.S..

For their next album Barafundle ( 1997), which was produced by Gorwel Owen, the band signed to the major label Fontana. The diverse instrumentation remained intact and the band retained its psychedelic touch with, but the album is quieter than previous works of the band.

These softer style was retained on the whole and refined in the later records, though, were also on these albums even rockier numbers such as " Poodle Rockin ' " or " Mow the Lawn " between.

Appeared in 2000, the band with John Cale in the film Beautiful Mistake, in which she played the song O Caroline Il in 1994.

The founding member John Lawrence left the band in 1999 and Sleep / Holiday was the last album the band. Euros Childs and Richard James worked on various projects until they announced in May 2006 that the band had dissolved.

Gorky 's Zygotic Mynci are the only band that top -75 singles in the UK brought out eight without it ever make it into the Top 40. Their highest chart positions are 41, 42 and 43
