Gorsedd

Gorsedd ( gɔrsɛð ), plural Gorseddau, is the name for a bard Association. Gorsedd is Welsh and means throne. In Cornwall the name Gorsedh and Brittany Goursez used. When the term is used without addition, he means mostly the Gorsedd of Wales, who calls himself Gorsedd Ynys Prydain Beirdd ( Gorsedd of the Bards of the British Isles ) or short Gorsedd Y Beirdd. But there are still other Gorseddau as the Gorsedh Kernow ( Cornish for Gorsedd of Cornwall ) and the Goursez Breizh ( Breton Gorsedd of Brittany ). The Gorseddau were founded to revive Welsh, Cornish and Breton traditions and maintain, to promote poetry and music and to develop a certain literary scholarship in these languages ​​, all belonging to the Celtic language family. One of the key activities and most visible activity of Gorseddau counts the organization and execution of conferences and festivals, such as the Eisteddfod.
