Goursez Vreizh

The Goursez Breizh or Goursez Vreizh is a bard union of Brittany with the aim to promote Celtic literature, art, music and the Breton language and maintain. The association is also because there still Celtic languages ​​are spoken with the Cornish and the Welsh in close contact with the Gorsedd of Bards of Wales and the Gorsedh Kernow Cornish. The word is borrowed from the Welsh Gorsedd Goursez and means throne. Breizh is the Breton name of Brittany. In French, the term Gorsedd of Brittany is used. The Goursez Breizh is attributed to the movements of the Celtic Neopaganism and is an association furnished in contemporary Druids.

History

Hersart Théodore de La Villemarqué (1815-1895), a French antiquity and linguist, traveled to Wales in 1838, to establish contact with the Gorsedd of Bards and organize a common Celtic Congress. There he was taken under the name Barz Nizon in the union. Later La Villemarqué founded the association Breuriez ar Varzed ( bards of Brittany ), whose activity is limited to the study of Breton art and linguistics. The Archdruid ( Archdruid ) of Wales had already approved the formation of a Gorsedds Brittany, the idea was not pursued further. 1898 saw the establishment of l' Union régionaliste Bretonne ( URB ) ( Union of the Breton regionalists ) to preserve the Breton culture and regional independence. 1899, a delegation of twenty people to Wales for the Eisteddfod, a festival of literature, music and song, the Gorsedd of Bards of the organized annually. There, a Breton Gorsedd was the symbolic presentation of Excalibur, the sword of King Arthur, was founded. In 1900, the konstitutierende meeting of Gorsedd of Lesser Britain in Guingamp and Jean Fustec was appointed the first Archdruid. 1908, the club under the name Gorsedd Barzed Gourenez Breiz Izel ( Gorsedd of the Bards of the Brittany peninsula ) was officially proclaimed. The current official name is Breudeuriezh Drouized, Barzhed hag Ovizion Breizh ( Brotherhood of Druids, Bards and Ovates of Brittany ).

Ranks and head

As with the Gorsedd of Wales there are at Goursez Breizh three ranks, resulting historically from the three degrees of Freemasonry. These are, in ascending order:

  • Ovates sporting green robes
  • Bards wearing blue robes
  • Druids, wearing white robes

The head of the Gorsedds is the Archdruid ( Archdruid ), who is elected for a period of three years.

The Tribann

Mythical symbol of Goursez Breizh is the Tribann, is the center of a rising sun rays and the virtues supposed to symbolize love, justice and truthfulness. It probably goes back to Edward Williams, the founder of the Welsh Gorsedds of Bards, who called it The Mystic Mark. 1833, was first seen in 1850 on banners and proclamations of Gorsedds of Bards. Today is made extensive use of this sign at Gorsedd of Bards. The bard Cornwall association used this symbol. There it is called Awen.
