Gościno

Gościno ( German United Jestin ) is a city in the powiat Kołobrzeski in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship. The Gmina Gościno is a city and rural community, which has its headquarters in Gościno.

Geographical location

The village is located in Eastern Pomerania, about 14 kilometers southeast of Kolobrzeg ( Kolberg) and 100 kilometers north-east of the regional capital Szczecin.

City ​​Gościno

History

The first written mention of the village dates back to the Great Jestin year 1238. During the 19th century the village was a domain of the city of Kolberg in Pomerania, which they leased. The combing of Kolberg had bought the town in the 14th century by the Abbot of the monastery Doberan. Around 1780 there were 16 farms on the domain.

By the end of World War II United Jestin belonged to the district of Kolberg- Körlin in the administrative region of Pomerania Pomerania. In May 1945, the region was occupied by the Red Army. Subsequently, the region was put together with all Pomerania under Polish administration. The German population was expelled in the following years.

On 1 January 2011 Gościno received the city status.

Traffic

By Gościno the Province Road 162 Drawsko Pomorskie and Świdwin runs south to Szczecin in the north.

Economy

Gościno has one of the largest forestry operations in Poland. In addition, there are two pharmacies, three bakeries and a large milk processing plant ( Arla Foods ), and the restaurant-bar Hania.

Attractions

This is primarily the (today the Polish martyr Andrew Bobola dedicated ) parish church of Great Jestin to mention. It is a neo-Gothic stone building from 1865, which was built on the foundations of an earlier wooden church. The interior is adorned with a cup-shaped baptismal font from the 12./13.Jahrhundert. The font is one of the rarest sacred monuments in the whole of Western Pomerania.

Road

Through the municipal area into a north-south direction, the province road 162 that leads from Kolobrzeg ( Kolberg) about Świdwin ( Schivelbein ) until after Drawsko Pomorskie ( Pomerania ). In the southern municipality it crosses the main road 6 ( former German Reich Straße 2, now also European Route 28), which ranges from Szczecin to Gdansk.

Railway

The Gmina Gościno is not directly connected to the railway network of the Polish State Railways. Only on the Stations Kolobrzeg and Karlino a rail link is given.

Prior to 1945, led by the current municipal area several lines of Kolberger small train. From the center of Great Jestin drove from 1895 small trains to Kolberg and after novel (now Polish: Rymań ), also by Stolzenberg ( Slawoborze ). 1909 a narrow-gauge railway line to Great Pobloth ( Poblocie Wielki ) was built, which was extended after 1915 to Karlino.
