Gottfried Finger

Gottfried Finger (* 1660 in Olomouc; buried on August 31, 1730 in Mannheim, Germany) was a Moravian- German conductor and composer.

Life

After musical studies in his native came Gottfried Finger to the court of the Prince-Bishop of Olomouc ( Olomouc ), Karl von Liechtenstein - Kastelkorn, after Kremsier ( Kroměříž ), where his earliest known compositions are preserved. After a short stay in Munich around 1682, he traveled to England, where he was admitted to the Royal Chapel in 1685 and he was known as Geoffrey finger. Here he devoted his 1687 op.1 the English king. After the exile of the king in 1688, began his fingers for a successful time as a freelance musician in which he was one of the important personalities of London's musical life. After 1702 he worked at the court of Berlin as a chamber musician, from 1707 as a member of the court orchestra in Innsbruck, whose leader, he was from 1708. He probably kept this position in the court orchestra until his death, even when the court in 1717 to Neuburg an der Donau, 1718 in Heidelberg and 1720 moved to Mannheim.

Works

His works are influenced by his Moravian and Bohemian contemporaries Pavel Vejvanovsky and beavers. Finger created sonatas for various instruments. He also composed in his time in London incidental music for Berlin and two operas.
