Gouin Reservoir

The Gouin Reservoir ( French Réservoir Gouin, Eng. Gouin Reservoir ) is a large lake in the Canadian province of Québec. He is about the same distance from Ottawa, Montreal and Quebec City away.

The reservoir is well spread out and has many islands, peninsulas and bays. The shoreline is more than 5,600 km long, the average water depth is only 5.5 m. The water surface area is about 1302 km ² in normal traffic. The river Saint- Maurice springs from the reservoir. It was named after Lomer Gouin, 1905-1920 Prime Minister of Québec.

The Barrage Gouin ( ⊙ 48.35333-74.09861 ) has a height of 26 m and a length of 502 m. It was completed in 1918. At the reservoir there is a small hydroelectric power plant with two turbines, each 300 kW. As of 1918, the Shawinigan Water and Power Company used the dam to regulate the flow of water on the downstream power plants. Since 1963, all plants are operated by Hydro-Québec.

The further situated below the dam " La Loutre ", a gravity dam is 16 m high with rather small. There are no paved roads to the reservoir, but only forest roads and the way to get there by plane. The lake is rich in fish and popular with anglers.
