Grabowo, Gołdap County

Grabowo ( German Grabowen, 1938-1945 Arnswald ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and is part of the rural community Gołdap ( Goldap ) in Gołdapski powiat ( county Goldap ).

Geographical location

Grabowo lies west of the Seesker heights (Polish: Wzggórza Szeskie ) in the province road 650 ( former German Empire Road 136) from Gołdap ( Goldap ) ( 10 km) on Węgorzewo ( Angerburg ) (44 km ) to Barciany ( Barten ) (70 km ) leads. In place of a Pogorzel ( Pogorzellen, 1938-1945 Hegelingen ) ends (11 km ) or Czerwony Dwór ( Rothebude ) (12 km ) next side street.

From 1899 to 1945 Grabowen railway station on the railroad track of Goldap to Angerburg that was not taken by the Polish State Railways in operation.

History

The previously mentioned Grabowen rural community was the eponymous on March 18, 1874 Location of a newly built office district. He belonged to the district Goldap in the district of the Prussian province of East Prussia Gumbinnen.

In 1910 Grabowen counted 450 inhabitants, in 1933 there were 478 and in 1939 466

On June 3, 1938 ( with official confirmation of 16 July 1938) Grabowen for political- ideological reasons " Arnswald " has been renamed.

As a result of the Second World War came the place in 1945 with the southern East Prussia to Poland and was given the designation " Grabowo ". Between 1946 and 1954 as well as 1973 and 1976 was Grabowo seat of a gmina. Today Grabowo is a district of Gmina Gołdap in PowiatGołdapski in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship ( 1946-1965 and 1973-1975 Voivodeship Białystok, Suwałki Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998 ).

District Grabowen / Arnswald

In 1874 formed nine rural communities the District Grabowen:

On July 25, 1939, the District was Grabowen in " District Arnswald " renamed. Until 1945, all new " origin " communities - incorporated in the District - albeit with different names.

Church

Church building

The first church was built in Grabowen in 1588 and was built of fieldstone and brick. The church had a gabled roof, and the tower was built in 1695. In 1732 took place the building of the pulpit altar.

1914/15 caused great destruction to the interior of the church due to vandalism of Russian soldiers. 1928 ended extensive restoration work where in 1925 a new organ was installed.

The damage to the church building in the war 1944/45, were minor. In 1960, the church was repaired.

357 years long the Grabow Church was a Protestant church. In 1945, she was expropriated in favor of the Catholic Church, which gave it the name Kościół MB Różańcowej.

Parish

A parish was built in Grabowen in 1589. At that time it belonged to the inspection Angerburg (now Polish: Węgorzewo ). Last of the Protestant Church of the Old Prussian Union was Grabowen in the church district Goldap ( Gołdap ) within the Ecclesiastical Province of East Prussia incorporated.

By 1910, services were celebrated in German and Polish language in Grabowen. 1944 comprised the parish 18 locations with about 4,600 church members.

Today is in Grabowo a Catholic parish, which is assigned to the Office of the Dean Gołdap ( Goldap ) in the Diocese of Elk ( Lyck ) of the Catholic Church in Poland. Here surviving Protestant church members belong to the Church community Gołdap, which is a branch church of Suwalki ( Suwalki ) in the Diocese of the Evangelical - Augsburg Church Mazury in Poland.
