Graf-Münster-Gymnasium

The Graf -Münster -Gymnasium ( GMG ) is the largest secondary school in Bayreuth with about 1,500 students (as of the beginning of the school year 2008 /2009). It is in the current building since 1910 and was then inaugurated as the secondary school. As before, the former secondary school Bayreuth in local parlance as OR ( two syllables " O- He " spoke ) refers.

It was named after Georg Graf zu Münster (1776-1844), an enthusiastic archaeologist who at that time many important discoveries made ​​in the region around Bayreuth, most of which are on display in the Prehistoric Museum in Bayreuth. The logo of the school, known as Dino, it refers.

History

The school was established as a county agricultural and trade school because of the education initiative of King Ludwig I of Bavaria. First, it was in the old town hall of Bayreuth. In 1842 she moved into the palace to Künsberg ( Friedrichstrasse 18), where it remained until 1910. In 1864 it was renamed in county vocational school and later ( 1872) in trade school. In 1877 it was converted into a six-year secondary school and in the years 1907-1909, a nine year old. In 1910 she received the name Royal county secondary school for Upper Franconia. The Künsberg Palace had become too small and the city decided to relocate the school in its present, then newly erected, building. In the two world wars, the school served as a military hospital. 1933 was celebrated the 100th anniversary of the school, which, like so many events, was at this time under the influence of the Nazis. In 1949 the first educational seminar was set up in the secondary school, which trains young teachers today. From 1951 to 1960, the model was Hohenschwangau, despite great lack of space and layer classes, in school tested, which corresponded to today's G9 College stage model approximately. 1964 the school received a modern languages ​​branch with French as a third language in addition to English and Latin. The grades were changed to 5-13 from the school year 1965/1966 at 1-9. As of March 14, 1966, the secondary school was due to the renaming of all higher educational institutions Bavarian high school and since then the name is called Graf- Münster -Gymnasium. In 1976, the college level has been introduced.

From 1963 to 1987, there were some structural changes to the School:

  • September 7, 1965: The new building was completed with 15 first class rooms
  • January 20, 1966: Construction of the swimming pool
  • 1968-1971: Expansion and renovation of existing building
  • 1970-1972: Construction of the sports field following the new building on the site of the former municipal nursery
  • October 20, 1987: Inauguration of the new sports hall and expansion of the new building of three classrooms

European School Type II

The Graf -Münster -Gymnasium took from the school year 2000/2001 on the model project of the European Gymnasium ( Egy ) part. This branch could be proved from the crossing in type II. After the introduction of the G8 ended the pilot, but the Egy - classes finish training in Egy planned branch.
